One month to go

We have less than one month until we get commissioned, graduate, and get married. Wedding planning is in full swing as is planning for 60 days. I go through the temple in about 2wks and cannot be more excited. For now we both continue to write final papers and prepare for finals.

The Story of Us

We were both working basic training, that's when first realized the other existed. He had just returned from his mission. At the start of school we ran into each other at our Commitment dinner where we exchanged numbers and became friends. I would edit his papers and he would ask me out on dates. I would always turn him down because at the time I was dating someone else. Upon breaking up with the guy, Zed jumped on the opportunity for me to say yes. We took a couple months to get to know each other and began dating on his birthday. For the next year we went on a ton of adventures from 8 mile hikes in 9* weather to cave exploring to running out of gas on the highway. We were also able to get to know each other's families and our parents were able to get to know each other.

A few days after our one year anniversary Zed proposed. We were sitting on the Colorado Avalanche's team bench during warm ups and he turned and asked me if he had to get down on one knee. I said of course and added there had to be a cheesy line and pictures. He took the camera out of my hand, gave it to the person next to him and got down on one knee. I said yes and we're currently busy planning 3 receptions.

We're having one reception in Colorado right after our temple wedding. We'll be having another in Michigan for my dad's family and a final one in Maryland for my mom's family and my high school friends. These are spaced out such that we'll be vacationing across the nation in order to make each. Concerts are also scattered throughout the 60 days.

We're so excited for the future and thank all of our loved ones for their support throughout the years.

The Back Story

I, Sam, grew up on the Eastern Shore of Maryland in the village of Allen. I have a sister, Abby, who is 6 years younger than me. My mom is an Air Force reservist and a full time nurse working for an insurance company. My dad works for the state department doing fire alarm systems. I got accepted into the Academy out of high school and I'm a humanities major, philosophy minor. I'm going to be a Force Support Officer after graduation and my first duty assignment is Columbus AFB in Mississippi.

Zed grew up in eastern Oregon and is the oldest of 6 boys. His dad is a ranch manager and his mom manages the home. Zed was accepted into the Academy out of high school as well, but left after sophomore year to serve his mission in Taiwan. He returned to the Academy and joined the class of 2012 at the start of senior year. He is majoring in geospatial science with a minor in Chinese. He will be attending pilot training at NAS Whiting Field in Milton, Florida.

As you can see we are already beginning the journey of being dual military. Our bases are about 5.5hrs away from each other.

The Beginning

Welcome to our lives. Zed and I are currently cadets at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO and members of the class of 2012. We will both be graduating with bachelor of science degree and becoming 2nd Lieutenants on 23 May. The next day, 24 May, we will be getting sealed in the Denver LDS temple. As our honeymoon we will be taking a 60 day vacation across the nation. We will be stopping at the wacky and most visited tourist sites and historic church sites. Please join us as we travel across the nation and as we live a dual military life.
